No bail for Ashish Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday granted more time to the prosecution to file the reply on the bail application of Ashish Mishra alias Monu, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case

A single bench of Justice Karunesh Singh Pawar granted two week time to the state government to file its reply on the bail application of accused Ashish Mishra alias Monu and fixed the next hearing on January 6, 2022.

Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the case of the death of eight people, including four farmers, in the violence following the riots in Lakhimpur Kheri District on October 3. Ashish is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni.

Additional Advocate General Vinod Shahi, told the court that the Supreme Court had on November 17, 2021 passed an order wherein it directed to re-constitute Special Investigation Team (SIT) and proceed with the investigation afresh. The AAG told the court that a fresh team has been reconstituted and that the newly constituted team shall make all efforts to conclude the investigation expeditiously and file a charge sheet soon.

The AAG said that the investigation is going on as directed by  the Supreme Court and there are a large number of eye witnesses whose statements have to be recorded. The AAG sought more time to conclude the investigation. The court granted two weeks further time to the prosecution to file counter affidavit. The matter will come up for hearing on January 6, 2022./LAB/SNG
