New Delhi May 22 (LAB) The Supreme Court today designated five former high court judges to the position of Senior Advocate.
In a full-court meeting held on Friday, May 20, the Supreme Court full bench conferred the position of Senior Advocate to the retired High Court judges
The position of senior advocates was offered to:
- Govind Mathudesir
- Ravi K Deshpande
- Dama Seshadri Naidu
- Vineet Kothari and
- ZA Haq among others.
The decision was taken by the apex court at a full-court meeting which was held this Friday, under section 16(2) of the Advocates Act 1961, read with rule 2(a) of order IV, Supreme Court.
Justice Govind Mathur served as judge of Rajasthan High Court and as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
Justice Ravi K Deshpande served as judge of the Bombay High Court for 11 years before demitting office in November 2020.
Justice ZA Haq served as Judge of Bombay High Court from 2013 to 2021.
Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu belongs to Andhra Pradesh (AP) and was elevated as a judge of the AP High Court. He later served as a judge of the Kerala High Court and was transferred to Bombay High Court in March 2019. He however resigned in the year 2021 to resume his law practice.
Justice Vinod Kothari served as Judge of Rajasthan, then judge in Madras, and later a Judge at Karnataka High Courts. He also held the position of acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court./ LAB/SNG
