New Delhi, Sept 20, 2018(LAB) The Supreme Court today directed the Maharashtra government to handover case diary of the investigation which tells how Bhima-Koregaon village trial expanded into a discovery of a Maoist plot on the life of Prime Minister, leading to the arrests of five rights activists across the country.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, justice A.M.Khanwilkar and Justice Chandrachud reserved their orders on a petition filed by historian Romila Thapar and four others seeking to appoint a special investigation team(SIT) to probe into the matter leading to the arrests of five activists on the pretext of having links with Maoists.
Earlier the houses of poet Vara Vara Rao, Lawyer Sudha Bharadwaj , activists Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Gautam Navlakha were raided and their arrests were made saying they have a hand in planning to kill prime minister Narendra Modi.
The arrests were made by the Maharashtra government saying that the accused had links with banned communist party of India (Maoist) . Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court of an impartial probe.
