The Covid-19 spread has affected the humanity throughout the world. The Legal system which is one of the most important arms of any government has come to a grinding halt. About 100 odd Indian Law Firms having more than 50 employees each have closed their offices and are working from home. Though the work is going on, Lawyers are waiting for the courts to open and things to normalize. Many litigants are suffering due to delay in their cases. During this period of crisis we talked to many lawyers across the country. Let’s see how COVID-19 has affected the legal system and the lawyers community.
We talked to Mr Ajay Bhargava, partner in one of the India’s oldest Law firms Khaitan and co. about his daily routine. Ajay is working on client matters from home. He also likes talking to his friends and colleagues over phone. He is regularly interacting with his overseas colleagues on the updates about the threat of Carona virus
Ajay Being an expert in Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property matters related to Pharmaceuticals and healthcare, keeps himself busy researching.
Ajay’s wife Vanita also a lawyer and partner with Khaitan and co.is working from home too. Law firms usually take up matters which involve lot of research and study as it deals with the intricacies of corporate law. Spending time with family. Playing board games with my My daughter Arushi (14) and son Parth (7) is really very interesting, Ajay said. .
Ajay said, “Since we already had an in-house maid, we have ensured that she too is fully protected. We have provided all sorts of facilities to her, of mask, soaps, shampoos, proper diet and medicine. We have discontinued the services of outside help, but of course we paid them advance salaries. We are all contributing towards household chores. My daughter is a very good Artist she is busy making her new painting. Kids are happy that parents are home. Usually we have busy schedules involving long hours outside the house. Our work has not stopped. We are working late nights as usual, but this time from home.”
“I use to travel a lot overseas but thankfully I have not traveled anywhere for the past two months. We are in difficult times. No one in the world can be happy with the current situation but we all have to cope with it”
“Government has taken some serious stringent measures. This is required to curb the spread of virus. Only request is for the government to take care of the poor, homeless, daily wage earners, other like employed people who are in a bad financial mess.”
Corona virus has become a global threat. The spread of the virus has led to mass scale infections and deaths the world over. Countries have enforced lock downs and social distancing. Business continuity has been severely impacted. This will affect the global economy. We are headed towards difficult times.
My Message to all is -Stay safe …stay healthy
