BCD ANNOUNCES GRANT TO LAWYERS IN WAKE OF COVID-19

The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) chairman K.C. Mittal announced financial assistance of Rs. 5000 to genuine and bonafide cases of advocates who are unable to sustain during the present extraordinary situation of the total lockdown. In a press release, Mr Mittal said. “In the present crisis of total lockdown, to mitigate some of the difficulties of fellow colleagues, the Bar Council of Delhi has decided to provide financial assistance”.

A request has been made to the senior advocates and members of the Bar to generously contribute money for providing assistance to the deserving members of the Bar.

“We, the members of Bar Council of Delhi, are conscious of the extraordinary situation created, whereby, everybody has been confined to their houses and are not allowed to go out, some advocates in Delhi/NCR and their family members are not in a position to meet their daily requirements for food and medicine etc. due to lack of finance.

In such an unprecedented crisis being faced by the Advocates in Delhi/NCR, it is resolved that the “Indigent and Disabled Committee of Bar Council of Delhi” is authorised to consider the request for grant of financial assistance, in genuine and bonafide cases of advocates, to the extent of Rs. 5,000 per Advocate, Mr Mittal said.

That only those advocate/applicants will be entitled to get some financial assistance

(A) who is residing on rented accommodation and has to furnish rent agreement or his self-attested affidavit in this regard.

(B) who is member of Bar Association of Supreme Court/High Court/District Courts/ Tribunals at Delhi for the last three years uninterruptedly and

(C) advocates/applicants required to pass AIBE mandatorily must enclose/refer passing acknowledgement.

It is made clear that extra ordinary arrangement is made only for Advocates, who are unable to meet their day-to-day expenses or food or even medicines and only request from such Advocates would be entertained. If any particulars in the application are found to be false, it will be open to the Bar Council to take any action against such advocate,” Mr.Mittal said.
