Indian Government Bans Export of Onion

The Indian Government banned the export of Onion and announced an amendment in the Export Policy with immediate effect.

The Central Government made the amendment in the Export policy of the onions due to the heavy rainfall which damaged crop and reduced harvest. Due to its heavy demand, the prices of onions soared domestically

A notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has clarified that exports of onions, which were so far “free”, now stood “prohibited with immediate effect”. … Between April and July 2020, exports of onions to neighbouring Bangladesh had incresed 157.7%. times.
