GITAM Law School in Vishakhapatnam organized a legal literacy camp with a focus on tribal upliftment initiatives. Mr Ravi Rabbapragada, the founder of Samata NGO, who has been instrumental in advocating the rights of tribal communities and has made significant contributions to them was present at the event.
Indigenous or tribal communities have historically faced marginalization, discrimination, and exploitation. These communities have unique cultures, languages, and traditional knowledge systems that are often threatened by external forces such as government policies, industrialization, and globalization. To tackle this situation, several Tribal Upliftment Initiatives have been taken that aim to address these challenges by promoting the social, economic, and political empowerment of tribal communities.
Prof. (Dr) R. Anita Rao, director of, school of Law, Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) deemed to be a university said that legal literacy programs can help preserve Indigenous traditions and values. She said that building Legal Literacy in Tribal Communities is the key to empowerment and self-determination which will lead to sustainable economic development initiatives for tribal communities, balancing their growth and environmental protection, Dr Rao said. / LAB/SNG/
