New Delhi, Feb 21 (LAB) The Supreme Court on Friday issued a contempt notice to the Food and Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for not paying heed to its earlier order passed in 2016 arising from the judgement of a petition Swami Achyutanand Tirth v. Union of India.
Supreme Court had in its earlier order passed on Aug 5, 2016, expressed serious concern over the adulteration of milk and dairy products and said “stringent measures”, including amending the Food Safety and Standards Act and making it a penal offence, are needed to “combat” the menace.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala issued a notice to the FSSAI and sought its response by March 3, 2023, on what measures they have taken so far to prevent adulteration. /LAB/SNG/
